An odd one this, one of the strings wouldn’t stay in it’s slot. I thought the nut was broken but the slots were at a bit of an angle. Easy answer, a new bone nut.
A nice guitar though.
While the strings are off, a good clean.
and oil…
I don’t have any 12 string blanks so I’ll have to start from a larger slab.
Firstly it’s a little thick..
so grind it down.
It fits the slot nicely now
The end needs to be shaped a little, the head stars to flare out a little.
so grind the end at about 1 1/2 – 2 degrees
With both ends done I cut the top down to shape, using the old nut as a guide.
With the top rounded I then put a slant on the back edge.
All in needs now are the string slots.
Once it’s in place with shallow slots I can re-string it.
It’s important to measure the action with the strings at full tension or you’ll get a false reading.
so cut each slot down, one at a time.
So there it is. Back to the full 12 strings!
There we go. I’m not really a fan of Tanglewood but this one’s really nice.
A word from the owner:
