Just a little bit of housekeeping, tidying up a rather “road worn” Gibson Les Paul.  It’s been well used and someone has made a few modifications.  It’s been modified with some very fancy “auto tuning” machine heads but the owner want’s them replacing with standard ones.  Keep an eye open as they will be re-appearing soon!

Before that, the frets are a little worn and uneven so a fret-dress is in order…

With the frets nicely level I gave the fret-board a good clean.

…and an oil.. 

While the strings are off I also took the rest of the bits and pieces off to give the body a good clean.

I’m now ready to start putting it all back together. The first step is to fit the new machine heads.

I’ve run out of time again so I guess It’s going to have to wait until next week to put it all back together and finish the setup….

First then the curve in the neck.

It had a little too much of a bend so I tightened the truss rod a little…

I had a look at the action at the 1st fret, it’s fine.

The action at the 12th fret was however a little high so I dropped the bridge down a little.

The Intonation was out by quite a bit but I’ve put that right…..

by moving the bridge saddles.

Lastly I had a look at the pickup heights.  It’s not something I had touched but the neck pickup was considerably louder than the bridge pickup.

Job done, just a little bit of spit and polish….
