Another job done. Looks and sounds great. I’ve included a small electrical mod I cam across recently, a resistor and capacitor in parallel across the live and output of the volume pot. It ensures you retain the quality of tone when the volume is turned down rather than it all go a little dull. Only […]

Spanish Acoustic – Final Update
Well its done. It didn’t come out quite as well as I would have liked. I just couldn’t find the right shade of wood veneer, but its better than the hole it had to start with! Click here to see the start of this project. A comment from the owner: “Thankyou very much George for […]
Fiesta Red Strat – Update
Fret-dress complete, they weren’t that bad but it’ll improve the feel. The owner also wants a bone nut so that’s another job while the strings are off. The blanks I found are just about the right size, the only problem as with many Fender necks the bottom of the nut slot has the same radius […]
Spanish Acoustic – 2nd Update
Having chosen the piece of wood I’ve cut out a slot on the guitar and a matching slice of veneer. Glue the piece of veneer in place… Once the glue has dried, its sanded in to get a smooth surface and some lacquer it should look OK. To see the final results click here.
Spanish Acoustic – 1st Update
Things didn’t work out quite as I would have liked. The colour match wasn’t quite right and the damage to cover is a little too large. Since it’s in such a prominent position, right on top, it will need some closer attention. I’ve found some small pieces of wood veneer on e-bay, I just need to work out which […]
Spanish Acoustic
This one looks a little un-loved, in need of a good clean and a new set of strings. It does have one more complicated problem, its got a bit of a hole where something was dropped on it, ouch! Since the hole goes all the way through its going to be difficult to fill. I’ve […]
Fiesta Red Strat
This is a nice guitar as it is, it just needs a little “TLC” While it’s on the bench the owner wants some nice new 54 spec pickups. He also has some other ideas as to the final layout and wiring of tone controls so I’m not quite sure where were going with it yet. […]
1960’s Watkins Rapier 33 – 2nd update
Had a look at the neck on the Rapier. A bit of a problem, there is quite a set in the neck already (about 10 thou’ at the 7th fret) but that’s with no strings! I would like a little less than that with the strings fitted and under tension but the trouble is it doesn’t have a […]
1960’s Watkins Rapier 33 – 1st update
It might be nice to put this guitar back to original but finding the parts is proving rather difficult, particularly with a limited budget. James has some ideas though and wants something rather different. First stage give the body a good clean out…. To follow the progress click here.
1960’s Watkins Rapier 33
In need of more than a little TLC this one is going to take a while. The cost of putting it back to original is out of the question so between us we have a couple of ideas to make something a little different.. Most of its there but missing the bridge and neck plate. […]
