Epiphone ES335 – Neck Repair

A rather nasty break this one.  It’s split along the grain though, so it’s repairable.

It’s split into several parts so I need to deal with those loose parts first.

Before gluing anything I removed any loose small chips that will get in the way of the head fitting closely back together.

Then inject slightly thinned wood glue as far into the end of the crack as I could.  I can work the glue in using a brush to most of the repair but I want it all the way to the end of the crack.

Clamping that part to dry before doing the same with the other side.

Once those loose parts are solid, glue and clamp the head back in place.

There was quite a lump wood missing so I used some wood filler in the cracks.

Once that dried it’s just a slow process of sanding and polishing to achieve a nice smooth finish.

Put the heads back….

and a new set of strings.

Unfortunately I don’t have painting and finishing skills or equipment.  Although I can make a decent functional repair It’s beyond me to hide the joins.

If you have a similarly broken guitar that you need fixing, within these limitations, then please just give me a call or drop me a line.
