A classic guitar in need of a little TLC…
The main reason for getting into this one is that the Floyd Rose is sitting flat on the body, effectively a hard tail.
With the rear cover off I can see why, the spring claw is screwed right in…
Apart from that the heads on the screws are completely chewed up and need replacing. Unfortunately my stock control has fallen down and I don’t have any in, so I’ll have to order some.
Also the screw holes look like they have been drilled out, but not plugged? So I’ve put that right.
While I’m waiting for the screws I’ll give the rest of the guitar a bit of a clean and polish…
I don’t want to polish it too much, I want to take off the surface dirt but don’t want to interfere with the aged appearance.
The switch and pots were a little crackley so I’ve given them a clean…
While the Floyd Rose is off I’ve also given it a good clean up.
All I need now are the new screws and I can put it all back together and finish the setup.
New screws…..
all I need to do now is put the springs back and fit a new set of strings…
Now for the balancing act! adjusting the tension of the springs against the tension in the strings so that the tailpiece sits parallel with the body.
Complete the rest of the setup and it’s ready to rock and roll…
A comment from the owner..
“Having bought this guitar back in the early nineties, I’ve had plenty of time to get it in a bad way. And it was! So embarrassingly I handed it over to George. He made an assessment of the required work and quoted me a very reasonable price. The guitar plays just as I required and some. Over the moon with it. George really does know his craft and although the guitar is not “his cup of tea” went way beyond what I was expecting. The Floyd Rose is beautify balanced and the scratchy electrics are gone, the fret board is better than when new, Its a joy to play with the action as specified. Thanks George….1st class service.”
