There wasn’t much really wrong with this one, it’s just been tucked away and neglected for a good few years.
The fretboard was rather caked in several years worth of goop.
It was rather thick and dry so I very gently used a cabinet scraper. Very important not to scrape too hard, to only remove the dirt and not the wood.
Getting right into the edges of the frets with a scalpel.
Lastly with 0000 grade steel wool.
Under all that the wood was very dry so a splash of lemon oil to bring it back to life.
The satin finish is always a little tricky, I found Taylor Guitars make a really good polish for those finishes.
It also had a problem with an intermittent pickup switch.
I tried cleaning the contacts but it still wasn’t 100%, so I changed it for a new one.
With the guitar clean and working all it needs now is a standard 5 point setup.
All was basically fine apart from a very low D string at the first fret.
A standard quick and easy fix is to clean out the old slot, fill it with fine bone dust…..
and drop in a drip or 2 of thin superglue to bind it together.
Once that dries it’s an easy job to cut the slot down to the right depth.
So there it is, good to go again.
