Never been a meal fan, and this one needs quite a bit of work doing to get it playing properly..
The frets are a little worn, not too bad….
the trouble is there are some low spots…
To sort out those 2 problems I’m going to level everything. First then, off with the nut..
and make sure the fretborad is completely flat..
With the neck level, taped up to protect it it’s time to start filing the frets..
You can see here, as soon as I started, where the low spots are…
Once the fret tops are level I need to re-shape the tops to round out the flat spots.
With the frets now level, and the right shape, each one now needs to be re-polished to restore the shine.
With the neck done I now need to look at the trem’. It’s not been behaving and holding tune.
I took it out to give the 2 pivot points a good cleanup and polish. Hopefully that’ll cure the problem.
With the strings back on another problem became apparent, it’s sitting rather low.
so I eased the springs off a little…
That’s better…
With that sorted in now needs a 5 point setup.
No.1 The neck set..
A little high so I tightened the truss-rod a little.
No.2 Having done that the action up at the 12th fret was now a little low…
so up with the bridge slightly..
No.3 The action at the 1st fret. Luckily it was right on the button.
No.4 The intonation. It wasn’t far out but needed a little adjustment.
N.5 The pickup heights.
There we go, ready to rock…
