Guitar not playing properly? How about a quick service and setup, pretty well anything can be sorted out. This one’s lust got a few minor problems.
The pickups don’t seem to be staying in place? An odd one that, I don’t think I’ve come across that before?
The volume and tone controls are a little bit “crackly” so a little switch cleaner should sort that out.
The volume pot’ is also a little loose so take the knob off…
and tighten up the locking nut.
With the electrics sorted and while the strings were off I gave the fretboard a good clean…..
and oil….
Back to those pickups. The threads are a little loose but aren’t stripped so I’m still not sure why they should slip down?
One of the springs was a little out of place so I put that right at least.
Back at the top of the neck the action at the 1st fret was very high. Since it’s got a locking nut the only way to reduce that is to take off some wood underneath it.
With a new set of strings the 1st the first thing that became obvious was the Tremolo action, just a little high….
so tighten up the screws on the trem’ claw.
The neck relief was a little high…
So I tightened up the truss-rod in order to flatten it out a little.
The action up at the 12th fret was also rather high….
so I dropped the trem’ down a little.
Since I sorted out the action up at the 1st fret all I need to do now is tweek the intonation and reset the pickup heights.
Once I checked the outputs I dropped in a small drop of superglue under each screw head. That should stop them moving and keep the pickup heights steady.
And there it is ready to rock again.
