This one is the twin to the one I did yesterday. Was in the same place as the Bass so has the same sooty smoke damage. Did exactly the same, pulled everything off and stripped it down as far as I could to clean and polish everything before putting it all back together.
As before the soot had got into all the nooks and crannies so I had to remove the machine heads to thoroughly clean the headstock..
Since the heads are the classic open sort I also took them apart to get to the intricate parts with a dremel. The ones on the right are done and the set on the left are still to do.
The heads on the neck mounting screws also needed a bit of a cleanup. One at a time so not to disturb the setting of the neck.
It also had an adjustable height bridge which is unusual. Rather a buildup of dirt and soot so It came out and had a real good cleanup.
There was also the pickup. I rather like this one, I don’t know if the mountings are a bespoke item but they are they have been done very well. Very small and fiddly to strip and clean each nut and bolt mind you! Still worth the effort, came out well I think.
As with the Bass yesterday I also cleaned the frets and fretboard with fine steel wool and added some lemon oil.
