How well does your guitar play? You probably take your car in to be serviced regularly but what about your prized Guitar? Normally people come to me with problems but just now and again it’s just for a quick “once over” Had one today, I think it’s for sale and the guy just wanted to […]

Fender Strat – Floyd Rose setup – completed
Got the screws… all I need to do now is put the springs back and fit a new set of strings… Now for the balancing act! adjusting the tension of the springs against the tension in the strings so that the tailpiece sits parallel with the body. Complete the rest of the setup and it’s ready […]
Fender Strat – Floyd Rose setup
A classic guitar in need of a little TLC… The main reason for getting into this one is that the Floyd Rose is sitting flat on the body, effectively a hard tail. With the rear cover off I can see why, the spring claw is screwed right in… Apart from that the heads on the […]
Squire Strat with new Tele neck
A chap came to see me with an upgrade he has had a problem with. It seemed like an easy job, fit a new neck on to an old body. This is as far as the screws got before they jammed solid and tore the heads out… The problem is the holes in the body […]
Epiphone Les Paul – Fret Dress and Setup
Been a quiet week, with nothing of real interest. A couple of fret-dressings. The last one a rather nice Epiphone Les Paul The fret-dress was a routine job, as was the setup.. The neck, unusually had very little set in it… The owner wants a fairly low action but I think it needs a little more […]
Soldering Day
A couple of small jobs today, one volume and one tone control. A simple replacement of a broken tone control. It does make life easy when the controls are on a separate plate, I don’t have to take the strings off to get to the trouble. Likewise this Yamaha, I was able to get to […]
Peavey Restoration – Final Update
With the body complete, bolt the neck back on and set it up. Since the whole guitar has been apart everything will need re-setting, starting with the truss-rod. The rest of it was simple, Job done…. To see the job in full click here
Gibson Flying V- Final Update
Well got it done at last. I was just waiting for one small part that was being re-chromed, only took 3 months!!! While I was waiting I thought I’d better do something to keep the owner happy so I’ve thrown in a bone nut. Since the guitar has such nice pickups, which should sound great, […]
Jim Harley, Fret Dress and Refurb
I’ve got quite a soft spot for Jim Harley Guitars, you don’t see many around but they make quite a wide range of gear. I’ve got one myself. This one is a nice piece of wood, it’s just in need of a little TLC. The first problem is it just doesn’t work, no output at […]
Peavey Restoration – 2nd Update
Next step, re-wire the pickups. I’ve cleaned the pots and they seem ok but the pickup switch and jack socket were both beyond recovery so I’ve wired in new ones. The jack-plate is very flat, not enough depth to fit countersunk screws, so I’m going to use ones with much smaller heads. The trouble is […]
