Gretsch Duo Jet Review

I’ve always been a Gretsch fan, I’m lucky enough to have an old, 1974, Country Gent I picked up in about 1982 but much as I love the look and sound of it, it is a little large.  I came across these Electromatic guitars a couple of years ago and have to say I was impressed from the start.  The snob in me said I don’t want a cheap Chinese copy I want the real thing.

Today I was working with those great guys in the MusicRoom, Lincoln and had a little time to try another one out.  The setup is really sweet, I  might take the nut down just a little but the set in the neck and the action height at the 12th fret is just nice.  I ran my fret rocker down the neck, it’s better than some top name guitars costing 5 times as much that I’ve had through the workshop lately.  The only down side is the neck is a little wider than I like, but that’s a personal choice.

The sound is fantastic, pure Gretsch at its best.  I like my guitar sound nice and clean and through a set of Vox valves and I’m right back to the 1960s!

If you are a George Harrison fan then treat yourself to a piece of history.  Admittedly it has the wrong Bigsby on it, the B5 rather than the B7 of the original but then if you want 100% accuracy it will cost you 5 times as much!  Your choice.  Put it this way I’ve now got a nice new Chinese built Gretsch.
