Epiphone Bass Upgrade

Spent all day today in an update to an Epiphone Bass. New pickups and machine heads. There are a couple of problems to overcome.  Firstly the bridge pickup is much bigger than the existing hole, although the old pickup rings are longer so there may be some old holes and marks visible. Second problem, the owner wants […]

Yamaha Setup

This is rather nice Guitar, very well put together and finished but the owner was unhappy with the action height, it was a little too high. Starting at the top the action at the first fret is a little high but since I’m going to fit a bone nut anyway I’ll adjust that once I’ve fitted it. […]

Custom Build – 2nd Update

Now that the body is done it’s about time I finished off the neck.  I’ve got the fretboard nice but I have something special in mind for the head.  unfortunately the head is just slightly too short to for what I have in mind so I need to add a couple of inches.  The bracing […]

Soldering Day

A couple of small jobs today, one volume and one tone control. A simple replacement of a broken tone control. It does make life easy when the controls are on a separate plate, I don’t have to take the strings off to get to the trouble. Likewise this Yamaha, I was able to get to […]

Custom Build – 1st Update

Got the body back from the painters today, Wow!! I’ve got all the bits together so the next phase is to start putting it all back together.  I’ve still got some work to do on the head mind you.  I have something special in mind for that too… Keep watching.          To see the project from the […]

Peavey Restoration – Final Update

With the body complete, bolt the neck back on and set it up. Since the whole guitar has been apart everything will need re-setting, starting with the truss-rod. The rest of it was simple, Job done….                              To see the job in full click here

Gibson Flying V- Final Update

Well got it done at last.  I was just waiting for one small part that was being re-chromed, only took 3 months!!! While I was waiting I thought I’d better do something to keep the owner happy so I’ve thrown in a bone nut.  Since the guitar has such nice pickups, which should sound great, […]

Jim Harley, Fret Dress and Refurb

I’ve got quite a soft spot for Jim Harley Guitars, you don’t see many around but they make quite a wide range of gear.  I’ve got one myself.  This one is a nice piece of wood, it’s just in need of a little TLC. The first problem is it just doesn’t work, no output at […]

Peavey Restoration – 2nd Update

Next step, re-wire the pickups.  I’ve cleaned the pots and they seem ok but the pickup switch and jack socket were both beyond recovery so I’ve wired in new ones. The jack-plate is very flat, not enough depth to fit countersunk screws, so I’m going to use ones with much smaller heads.  The trouble is […]

Peavey Renovation – 1st Update

Got the body stripped down and cleaned.  Nothing too severe, just enough to remove the surface dirt. I’ve also cleaned off the rust from all the tremolo screws.  They all move freely now so I’ll be able to set the bridge height and intonation easily. I’ve stripped all the electrics from the pick-guard.  I’m going […]
