Fender Telecaster – Intonation problems

Everyone loves a Telecaster, a cassic guitar, no-one should be without one!  There is, however, one fundamental problem with the original design.  The strings are paired up on the bridge saddles and so the intonation is always a compromise, perticulrly on the D and G strings.

There is a simple solution though, compensated saddles.  I’ve got a set here (on the right) that I’m going to fit to this one…

Changing them is quite easy, just swap them, one for one.  The art is getting them in exactly the right place.  The bridge heights need to be set as part of a standard 5 point setup…..

along with the intonation.  If they are’nt set at the right point along the strings then the guitar will sound out of tune played further up the neck.

There we go, a great guitar, better than ever…

A word or 2 from the owner:

“Hi George. Great job on my Tele. Plays like a dream and stays put Changing the saddles and setting it up has made a huge difference.”
