Nice 12 string, just wants a bone nut and saddle to make it into something special.
I’ll make the new nut from a large blank since I don’t have one for a 12 string.
First of all make sure it’s flat and square…
Then shave it down to the right thickness..
Once it fits the slot I’ll cut the shape..
Using the old nut as a guide…
Next I’ll make the new saddle…
Again I’ll just use the original as a guide, Making sure the bottom is flat and square..
also making sure the top matches the radius of the fretboard.
That should do..
Before I put the strings back I’ll give the fretboard a little oil as it’s rather dry.
With the strings back check the setup..
The set was rather excessive so a turn or two on the truss-rod..
The action height at the 12th fret was spot on, got the saddle right first time.
Lastly the action at the 1st fret. I need to cut the slots down to get the action right.
There we go, nicely setup..
