Gibson Les Paul, Fret-dress and Setup

A nice old guitar but in need of a little TLC…

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe frets and fretboard are rather worn for one.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe bridge pickup is loose, and the pickup switch is rather intermittent.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAWith the strings off the reason for the loose pickup is clear, the brass threaded end has pulled out.  A fairly easy fix.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe frets are very worn so I’ll need to take quite a bit off the level them.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAOnce they were all done I re-shaped the tops.  This is the first one almost done.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERASANYO DIGITAL CAMERAWith the tops rounded each one need polishing again.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAWith the frets done I had a go at the fretboard.  It’s rather pitted so there isn’t much I can do about that without pulling the frets but I gave a good clean.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAA little bit of lemon oil to bring it back to life.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAI also fitted a new Bone nut which should improve the tone.  Just finishing off the slots.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERASANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe neck was a little flat….SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAso I added a twist to the truss-rod.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAFinally the action at 12th fret….SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAand the intonation.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERABack to the electrics, first the pickup switch, take it out and give the contacts a clean.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAand just to make sure some switch cleaner in the pots.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAJob done.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA
