Ibanez Floyd Rose

Floyd Rose Trems’ can be a pain sometimes.  For some reason this guitar sounds out of tune at various points up and down the neck.  The intonation seems OK so I’m not entirely sure what’s wrong.  Since the owner doesn’t really use the trem’ I’m going to fit a couple of blocks in place to hold it in one place, fit a new set of strings, complete a standard setup and see if that fixes it…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

With the springs tightened the trem’ block will sit against the wooden blocks.  Easy enough to remove and return it to full function in the future.  Right now its effectively a hard tail.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

The tuning problem could be something as simple as worn strings so I’ve fitted new ones before completing a setup.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

The neck set was a little high so tighten the truss-rod.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Next the action at the 12th fret, a little high…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

so drop the bridge down a little…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

The action at the first fret was fine so all that’s left is the Intonation..SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

There was also a question of the pickup outputs, they seem a little weak, so I’ve raised them all up a little..

Job done.  Sounds OK but it needs to be played for a while to make sure..SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA
