Got the wiring finished so all the bits and pieces back in place. Just one part missing, needed re-chroming which I really can’t do! Once that comes back all it’ll need is a new set of strings. To see the start of the project click here.

Gibson Flying V – 4th Update
Got the wiring done. A simple guitar, 2 pickups, 2 volumes, one tone, one switch and a jack socket. Nothing particularly fancy although I’ve been asked to include the volume tone fade fix. To see the entire project so far click here.
Gibson Les Paul, Fret Dress & Setup
I was asked to have a look at a Les Paul with a view to improving the setup, a nice easy couple of hour job, (or so I thought)! The first thing of course is to have a close look to see exactly what needs doing to improve the playing. If the owner was completely […]
Gibson Flying V – 3rd update
Now that the glue has dried I can refit the pickups to drill the new holes. I’ve used cotton in place of the E-strings to make sure the location is right. Holes drilled and pickups installed. I’ve left a slight gap between the bridge pickup and the pickguard otherwise the hole for pickup would be visible […]
Gibson Flying V – 2nd update
I’ve started to fit the new parts but found another problem The pickups have been changed at some point and the holes for the pickup rings aren’t quite in the right place and they don’t quite sit squarely. The neck pickup isn’t too bad but the bridge pickup will have to be moved. I’ve filled […]
Gibson Flying V – 1st update
Having sorted out the sheered off strap button screws etc. Next I removed all the old bits and pieces, pickguard with electrics before giving the body a good polish to remove all the old dirt and minor scratches. Ready to start building in the new parts. Click here to see the start of the job.
Noisey Telecaster
I was asked if I could fix a noisy Telecaster, I thought that was the idea! However on listening there was an excessive amount of hum. I though it would be less complicated as you can get to the wiring without taking the strings off. However once I got it open I couldn’t immediately find anything […]
Stratocaster wiring problem
Should be a simple job, a crackly Strat’. Always an annoying problem but sometimes difficult to locate. At first I couldn’t really see (or hear) anything wrong, but that’s not really the answer so I opened it up to see what’s inside. The strings are a little worn and there’s always the chance of snapping one, […]
Gibson Flying-V Restoration
Gibson Flying-V Restoration This is bit of a long term job. I started a couple of months ago with a fret-dress but it’s time to start the rest of it. It should be quite simple apart from a couple of sheered off and striped out screw heads. The only way to get that screw out is bit […]
1960s Watkins Rapier – 6th update
I had a little spare time this afternoon so had a bit of a play with the old Rapier. As I’ve not been able to find the proper bridge I decided to fit a “Tuneomatic” one. First thing I need to work out exactly where it’s going to fit so I needed to establish the […]
