Ah here’s a fairly common problem, the bridge has come away from the top of this one. It should be a fairly simple repair although it’s been complicated by the owners attempted repair. Well you would try and fix it wouldn’t you.
The biggest problem is to remove the glue that he used, it’s very tough but it’ll stop the wood glue bonding to the wood otherwise.
The top layer of the ply seems to have come away completely so in cleaning the old glue there’s about a 0.5mm recess.
Since the bridge is overlaps the hole I need to fill it with a wood veneer so that the top is flat and the bridge has something to grip onto. The paper is just a template, to get the shape right…
And that’s the wooden version…
Glued and clamped into place
Doesn’t look so good but at least now I’ve got a flat surface to glue the bridge too.
Next the bridge, get all that old glue off, keeping the bottom flat.
That should do..
So time to glue it back in place. I’ve used a couple of old bridge pins just to make sure I get the bridge in the right place.
Clamped in place while the glue dries.
There it is..
and with the strings back in place.
Good to go…
