What a lovely Guitar, just in need of a tweek here and there to get it playing as it should.
The frets were good and even so they didn’t need any work for once.
Since it’s got a floating bridge I put some low adhesive tape on the body before removing the strings. That way I’ll know exactly where to re-fit it.
The bridge still had the protective plastic underneath it. It’s just a protective strip intended for transit. It’ll act like a damper between the bridge and body and reduce the sustain and maybe make the sound a little dull. Anyway it’s gone now.
While the strings were off I gave the fretboard a good clean….
and oil as it was a little dry…
Next I fitted a new set of strings, using the tape as a guide for the bridge position and making sure the strings are centrally located over the neck. The gaps between the outer “E” strings and the edge of the neck are equal…
With a couple of other minor bits, a loose jack socket all it needs is a standard 5 point setup:
1. The neck set…
A little flat so loosen the truss-rod just a shade.
2. The action at the 12th fret…..
It was just slightly high so I dropped the bridge a little…
3. The Action at the 1st fret…. Possibly a little low but as the strings weren’t buzzing it’ll probably be OK. Things can move having fitted heavier strings and adjusted the truss-rod it might settle and end up buzzing.
4. The intonation…. Moving the saddles in the bridge there wasn’t enough movement….
so I moved the bridge a little.
5. The pickup heights…. The neck pickup was a little low. The only true way to set them mind you is to plug the guitar in and listen to it.
So there we go, ready to Rock ‘N’ Roll with the best of them…
Even meets my criteria, would I like to add it to the collection…yes.
