Most people stand in one camp or the other, Gibson or Fender, but this one crosses divides. It just came in for a once over, service and setup. A classic Fender?
No, from the Gibson stable…
Not a great deal wrong with it, just in need of a little TLC…
The electrics were a little “crackly” so I gave them a good clean…next the frets, a bit of a shine…and remove some grime from the fretboard…
With that done a quick check of the setup.
First thing, the trem’, not really working properly…
so I added another spring and loosened off the claw a little…
Next a look at the neck, just a little too much set…so a tweek on the truss-rod..Then the action at the 12th fret..about right on the Bass side but a little high on the treble so drop the bridge a shade…with the outside strings set I’ll adjust the rest to match the radius of the fretboard….With that done check the action at the 1st fret…
It’s fine so lastly the intonation…
and the pickup heights.
The only other thing wrong is a torn screw thread on one of the strap buttons. An easy fix. First drill out the hole and glue in a wooden pug….
Then, once the glue is dry, trim it flat…
drill a new hole…and screw it back into place…And there we go, ready to rock again…
A word or two from the owner:
“Hi George – thanks for servicing My baby……the cherry red Epiphone S200. She has always been a superb guitar – handles like a strat` but sounds like a les paul but with a much more versatile range of tones. Still looks and sounds awesome even after 30 years ! So good to have her home again :)” Simon
