I generally rate Ibanez guitars, but this one’s not so good. It’s got some very uneven frets.
The only way to get it playing properly is to dress them all, to get a common level. It’s always easiest to do that with the neck off the guitar.
There we go, taped up and levelled.
As I started you could see the low spots, where there’s still black marker on top of the frets.
And that’s it down to the lowest common point.
Now I need to re-crown the tops, to round them off again.
Since they’re quite large frets and I had to take quite a bit off, it was a big job. You can see the ones on the left are finished, the one in the middle’s about half way through and the ones on the right are still to be done.
Once they’re all rounded again, they just need polishing.
With the frets sorted, a good cleanup of the fret-board, to remove any ground in dirt.
A touch of lemon-oil to bring the wood back to life.
With new strings the bridge was sitting a little high…
So tighten the spring claw up a little.
That’s better…
With that sorted all it needs is a standard setup.
No.1 The neck set..
Just a small tweek needed on the truss-rod.
No.2 The action at the 12th fret. A little low…
So up with the bridge a touch.
No.3 The action at the 1st fret. About OK.
No.5 the intonation.
No.5 the Pickup heights.
An there it is, ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll.
