Anyone who knows me will know I’m a Rickenbacker fan, and this is a fantastic example…
Nothing much wrong with it, just needs a bit of a clean and setup with new strings..I’ve always though 12 string heads look too large and cluttered but Rickenbacker got it right.
With the strings of I first gave it a good clean…With new strings fitted just the setup. As it’s a 12string that’s at least twice the work though. The theory’s the same, start with neck set…Twin truss-rods just to complicate things though…The action at the 12th fret was just a little high, so I lowered the bridge a little.Back at the 1st fret it was also a little high…so I took each slot down just smidgen. Then the intonation. With any 12-string it’s always a compromise. You can get a 12 way adjustable bridge but they’re not a cheap option. But then the slight “out of tuneness” is perhaps what makes the Rickies sound so great? What a great looking guitar!Ready to rock & roll..Even the back looks fantastic!
A word or two from the owner:
“Yes, a truly fabulous guitar and thanks for setting it up to my liking George. The addition of flat wound strings really do bring that Ric sound alive. Having not played a guitar seriously for about 25 years it’s down to some proper work now!”
