So here’s a thing, this is a left handed guitar but the owner wants it strung as per a right handed guitar, but he doesn’t want a right handed guitar as he plays it left handed. A little odd, but relatively simple…
First of all then, out with the old nut.
Since neck had it’s finish applied after the nut was fitted it can be easily cracked when you pull the nut. I like to just gently score it carefully first.
and then pull the nut.
I’m going to fit a new bone nut.
It was a little thick so it took a little work to sand it down to fit the nut slot.
The curve at the bottom doesn’t match the fretboard either so that took a little more work.
It’s also slightly too long.
so that needs shortening a little.
The top was also way too tall so I took that down as well.
A little superglue to keep it in place.
Since I took the top off there were no string slots left so I marked out a new set.
and cut them roughly down to fit.
Once the strings were back and at full tension I could accurately measure the action at the first fret.
Now I could measure exactly how deep to cut the slots.
There it is, a Right/Left hander, or is that the other way around?
Of course that’s only one part of it. The intonation and saddle heights need to be re-adjusted.
And there it is.
