I seem to have the set, a water damaged Rickenbacker last week now a smoke damaged acoustic bass this week!
The light patch is where I’ve wiped away the soot. You can see the grubby marks on the top as well.
I started at the top, it wasn’t easy to clean around the machine heads so I’ve taken them off. I’ll be better able to clean them as well.
The inside was a little harder to clean but being a bass the sound-hole is just large enough to get my hand in. All I’ve used is some gentle cleaner and a damp cloth. As long as I don’t soak it a little moisture isn’t a problem.
I’ve used the usual fine steel wool and lemon oil to bring the fretboard back up.
The same on the bridge.
The screw for the strap button was rather corroded so I’ve cleaned up the button and stuck a new screw in.
Much the same with the other strap button.
It’s got a piezoelectric pickup so I’ve taken the control box out to clean all the switches and polished the jack socket contacts.
Once the cleaning is done all I’ve got to do it put it all back together and check on the setup.
