I think this is a great guitar, well it could, and will be. Sadly they’ve let themselves down with the detail. Nothing that can’t be fixed, but it’s something that shouldn’t need doing.
While I’m at it I’ll tidy up a couple of other problems. It’s seen some action so the frets are a little worn…As they are a little uneven, a fret-dress will sort both problems in one.The fretboard needs a good clean as well (I’ve seen worse).First mask up the fretboard and start levelling the fret tops. You can see the low points where the levelling beam isn’t touching…Carry on until everything is reduced to the lowest point…Now the frets are even, but have flat tops, I’ll need to round each one off again. I’ve started the 1st fret…and this is it almost done…
Once they’ve all been re-shaped they all need polishing with 4 grades of micromesh.
With the frets done I cleaned up the fretboard with very fine steel wool.
and oil it again with lemon-oil.
While I’m at it I’m going to fit a new nut, a bone one rather than the plastic one it came with. It’s quite large so I’ll have to make on from scratch, first making sure the bottom and sides are flat and square.
then the right thickness..With the blank fitting nicely I marked up the string slots..With the strings in place and at tension I can work out how deep to cut each slot..and complete a full setup…staring with the set in the neck…It was a little flat so I slackened off the truss-rod a little.Lastly the action height and intonation and it’s done. There we go, Nice…
