Floyd Rose Trems’ can be a pain sometimes. For some reason this guitar sounds out of tune at various points up and down the neck. The intonation seems OK so I’m not entirely sure what’s wrong. Since the owner doesn’t really use the trem’ I’m going to fit a couple of blocks in place to hold it in one place, fit a new set of strings, complete a standard setup and see if that fixes it…
With the springs tightened the trem’ block will sit against the wooden blocks. Easy enough to remove and return it to full function in the future. Right now its effectively a hard tail.
The tuning problem could be something as simple as worn strings so I’ve fitted new ones before completing a setup.
The neck set was a little high so tighten the truss-rod.
Next the action at the 12th fret, a little high…
so drop the bridge down a little…
The action at the first fret was fine so all that’s left is the Intonation..
There was also a question of the pickup outputs, they seem a little weak, so I’ve raised them all up a little..
Job done. Sounds OK but it needs to be played for a while to make sure..
