How’s that for a guitar finish! Wow, I’m not sure if it’s quite my cup of tea but I just love it. Sadly it’s just not playing very well, there’s quite a bit of fret buzz high up the neck.
The problem lies in the frets, some of them are just a little uneven. To uneven to dial out with a setup, they need dressing to level them off.
It’s always easier to work with the neck off the guitar. Also less likely to do any damage to the body.
With the neck off, levelled and taped up to protect the frertboard.
The black marker pen is so I can see when my sanding beam is touching and therefore where the low points are.
So long as there’s pen on top of the fret I need to keep going.
Once that’s done each fret needs to be rounded off again and then re-polished.
Time to put it all back together.
A standard setup should be possible now, a decent action without the buzz. First the neck set.
Then the action at the 12th fret….
by adjusting the bridge height.
The action at the 1st fret.
The intonation…
Finishing off with the pickup heights.
So there it is playing and feeling as good as it looks.
A word or 2 from the owner:
“Thanks for sorting it out for me George. It was nearly unbearable before you leveled the frets and set it up. My go to guitar now. Plays extremely well.”
