Ibanez Bass – tidy up

Another great Bass.  Seen some action so needs a bit of a tidy up.  It would be a shame to do too much though, it’s got it’s age and use written all over it.  Something I hate are the new “Road Worn” guitars but this one’s got that way from use.

There were some black sticky marks around the bridge that were rather difficult to remove, but then I don’t want to get it too clean and new.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThat’s probably about right…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAWhile the bridge is off I cleaned up and oiled all the screws so that they all move freely.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAAs with the body I don’t want to polish it otherwise it’ll spoil the look.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERANext the electrics.  The jack socket is rather old and tired, not much I can do with that apart from replace it.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

While the pick-guard is off I also cleaned the pots..SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Next the neck, polish the frets…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

and clean the fret-board….SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

With the clean-up complete it’s time to put the strings back and complete a setup.

As ever the first stage is the neck set, which was huge..SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThen the action at the 1st fret.  A little low actually but should be OK.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThen the action at the 12th fret, by adjusting the bridge height.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Since the bridge has been completely apart it all needs adjusting to get each string height matching the radius of the fret-board.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERALastly the intonation and it’s done…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAReady to rock’n’roll again…SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

A word or two from the owner:

“Has done a fantastic job giving some much needed TLC to an old and worn favourite. She’s still old and worn (like her owner), but her beauty now shines through. Thanks George.
Tony”
